This retreat is designed to fill a gap by offering a faith-centered travel experience that integrates Islamic learning, wellness, and meaningful connection in a serene environment while creating an impact in the community and building sisterhood. Using the Prophetic Model, the retreat will be a means to create healing and belonging, and combine spirituality, nature, and community impact while experiencing the rich East African Islamic history in the region.
This retreat is curated for revert women who are seeking to strengthen their faith, build meaningful sisterhood, and reconnect with themselves away from the noise of the world. Whether you embraced Islam recently or many years ago, this retreat is designed to provide a supportive environment to learn, reflect, and connect with other women who understand the unique joys and challenges of this journey in Islam. The trip is designed for women keen on learning about African Islamic history, to discover the tale of reversion of the East African coast while rediscovering themselves.
Held over Kenya's Mashujaa (Heroes) Day, the retreat is inspired by the courage and resilience of the first Muslims who embraced Islam. While many people think of the Sahabah only as lifelong companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we remember that they were also the first reverts in Islam.
Throughout the retreat, we will reflect on the lives of these remarkable men and women and explore what their stories teach us about faith, resilience, purpose, and belonging today.
This retreat is designed to create a meaningful connection between travel and giving, offering you the opportunity to directly support programs for needy reverts.
Rooted in our tayyib values, we believe travel should be responsible, ethical, and spiritually conscious, going beyond simply seeking halal food. It emphasises wholesomeness, integrity, and creating benefit for others.
To acheive this, we will be partnering with Tijara Duka to provide welcome packages and support reverts in Kenya.
During the booking process, you will have the option to add a voluntary contribution to help fund these initiatives, allowing your journey to become part of a lasting legacy of support for fellow sisters.

Sister Umi Wabomba - A Kenyan communications strategist, entrepreneur, and Muslim community advocate. A revert to Islam, she has worked in senior communications roles within Kenya’s banking, insurance, and private sectors, and is the founder of Kijani Communications and Tijara Duka, an Islamic Book & Gift Shop. She is also a co-founder and leader of Embrace Reverts Program, a support network that provides mentorship, education, and community for women who have embraced Islam. Through her work, she promotes Islamic education, halal lifestyle awareness, ethical leadership, and faith-driven entrepreneurship.
Sister Rahma Ngoi - Sister Rahma (Sylvia) Ngoi is a revert sister whose journey through life's chaos led her to Islam, a beautiful gift she has since learned to nurture and cherish deeply. With a background in conservation and community development, Rahma previously served as the Programs Coordinator at Mugie Conservancy, leading community outreach initiatives that bridged ecotourism and local communities. Through the different seasons of her journey, Allah gradually opened doors that aligned more closely with her faith, eventually leading her to Halal Safaris, where she now serves as the Reservations Manager. Having experienced both the beauty and the challenges of life as a revert, Rahma believes that every revert deserves a community that celebrates not only their shahadah, but every step of their journey thereafter.

An exclusive five-bedroom beachfront villa in Kilifi, offering a serene coastal retreat where privacy, comfort, and faith-conscious hospitality come together. Set along the beautiful shores of Bofa Beach, the villa features spacious en-suite bedrooms, elegant living spaces, direct beach access, and a private swimming pool designed for complete relaxation, and best of all, an in-house mosque in its grounds, providing a peaceful setting for daily prayers, spiritual gatherings, retreats, and study circles. The private pool and secluded surroundings make it especially ideal for women seeking a comfortable environment to unwind with privacy. As a Muslim-owned facility, it will ensure the utmost halal experience for the guests.
We will pray together and orient to the program and activities. A special Swahili dinner will be prepared where we will eat as a group to commence the retreat officially.
Recognising that everyone is at a different stage of their faith journey, prayers will be performed together as we travel, or at Masjid Abdulrahman, offering new reverts the opportunity to learn through shared experience and observation. Each morning and evening, participants are invited to recite the daily "adhkar" (supplications), read the Qur'an together, and strengthen their connection with Allah in a supportive environment. The day begins with peaceful early morning worship and reflection, creating space for spiritual growth, mindfulness, meaningful connections, and shared journeys of faith.
The session will be facilitated by Sister Umi Wabomba and will include an opportunity to learn to explore participant unique strengths through the lens of Islamic teachings and self-reflection. The session will be open to also local reverts in the community as means of building sisterhood. The session will end with dhuhr prayer together at the mosque.
Within the session, the topic on "Prophetic Model" will be covered to draw on the insights from psychology by Personality Coach Gehad Mursi. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their personality, build confidence in their identity as New Muslims, and learn practical ways to align their faith, relationships, and personal growth with their natural gifts and purpose. These will help participants embrace their strengths, just like the Sahabah (revert companions).
Sisters will spend the afternoon with free optional activities including beach relaxation, swimming, or walking along the shorelines of Kilifi to relax and unwind.
Experience the tranquil beauty of Kilifi Bay aboard a traditional Swahili dhow as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean. Enjoy refreshing drinks and snacks while gently sailing through the calm waters. Together, sisters will recite the evening adhkar, reflect on the blessings of Allah, and read the Qur'an, creating a peaceful and spiritually uplifting end to the day.
Dinner will be served at the villas.
Discover the 900 year old ancient ruins of Gede, a hidden Swahili city nestled within a coastal forest. Gede offers a fascinating glimpse into the early spread of Islam along the Swahili Coast. The ancient city was home to generations of African Muslims whose faith grew through learning, trade, and community rather than conquest. For reverts, a visit to Gede is a reminder that Islam has deep roots in East Africa and has long welcomed people from diverse backgrounds into its rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
Explore the beauty of the Watamu Marine Park, one of Kenya’s most breathtaking coastal treasures, known for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and rich marine life. Enjoy a relaxing ocean experience followed by a fresh seafood barbecue featuring local flavours, while watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean, a perfect blend of nature, culture, and coastal hospitality. Carry your burkinis if you want to have a dive in the clear blue waters of Watamu.
To conclude the retreat, you will gather for a special farewell dinner that brings together all the experiences, learnings, and memories from the journey. This final evening is designed as a space for celebration, gratitude, and reflection, as participants share key takeaways and personal moments of growth from the retreat.
Ending the trip with peaceful early morning reflections and intention setting. The sessions will be held at the masjid within the villa compound.
As Kenya celebrates Mashujaa Day, this inspiring farewell session explores the lives of remarkable Muslim men and women whose courage, faith, and service shaped East African history. Participants will reflect on figures who worked closely with Muslim coastal communities in resisting colonial rule and spreading Islam, whose efforts continue to inspire generations to-date but stories remain unknown. The session offers valuable lessons for reverts navigating their own journeys of faith in a non-Muslim environment. Through storytelling and discussion, participants will discover how East Africa's rich Muslim heritage provides role models of resilience, identity, and spiritual growth.

"Halal Safaris have given me one of the best experiences of my life so far!" - Rahma
"Every minute of our trip was just extraordinary thanks to the Halal Safaris team! We learned so much about the history and unique cultural heritage of the Kenyan coast, and we were totally blown away by the area's natural beauty! Truly paradise! All of our excursions and experiences felt very intimate and authentic thanks to the local/insider knowledge and expertise provided by Halal Safaris. I think my favorite aspect of the trip was just that - feeling like we were far away from the well-trodden tourist track where you're elbow to elbow with other tourists...but all the while staying at beautiful, world class accommodations that made it feel like every bit the classic luxury beach escape! Just perfect in my book!" - Liz

Tsavo East National Park is only 3 hours drive and is one of the largest and most diverse national parks. It boasts a stunning array of landscapes, from savannahs to volcanic hills. The park is renowned for its large herds of elephants, often referred to as the "Red Elephants" due to the reddish soil they inhabit.
